Dating back to approximately 1200-1400 AD, this remarkable Chimu mummy owes its exceptional preservation to the region's dry climate and advanced burial customs. Unlike the elaborately embalmed mummies of Egypt, this individual experienced natural desiccation due to the harsh environmental conditions. The Chimu's custom of enveloping their deceased in layers of cotton and wool textiles was crucial for maintaining the body’s state and safeguarding the treasures interred with it.
